An auspicious day in my life when I
witnessed POWWOW function of First Nations in Indiana University, Bloomington.
First Nation
Education and Cultural Center, IU, Bloomington celebrated 5th Annual
Traditional POW WOW function in IUM from 11o’clock for two days 11/07.15 &
11/08/15. Pow Wows are the Native American people’s way of
meeting together, to join in dancing, singing, visiting, renewing old
friendships, and making new ones. This is a time method to renew Native American culture and preserve the
rich heritage of American Indians.
First People from Minnesota, Bay City Texas,
Oklahoma, Nebraska, , South Dakoda were
gathered for the celebration. Venders, Exhibition of the craft and craft
products by Indians, Singing – Dancing and Drum along with the free delicious
dinner were the part of function.
Pow wow is
contributing to the awareness of many
facilities in the field of educational programs, grants, courses to the young Indians for
getting good education. An special corner was
operating with the pamphlets and brochures on the information.
The function including non - indigenous people. Elderly persons, adults, young adults and the children all were enjoying in their traditional out fits.
Art and craft section was a treasure of the indigenous people skills and competency. Navajo silverwork, Bead work, Fleece warm clothes, Herbal tea, soap, beauty products and many more displayed and were sold off. The best thing was there all the people were celebrating their function including non - indigenous people. Elderly persons, adults, young adults and the children all were enjoying in their traditional out fits.
It was an incredible memory for me to cherish for ever.
